How to turn PET water bottles into pellets
Waste PET bottle pelletizing is the process of converting waste PET bottles into recycled pellets through a series of steps. This process involves collection, sorting, crushing, cleaning, and pretreatment of PET bottles, followed by melting and granulation to finally obtain PET recycled pellets. These recycled pellets can be widely used in textiles, packaging, building materials, and many other fields. This not only reduces environmental pollution but also achieves resource recycling – fully in line with the concept of sustainable development.
What is PET water bottle
PET water bottles are water bottles made from the plastic material Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), a widely used
thermoplastic polyester with excellent transparency, heat resistance, chemical resistance and mechanical strength.
Because of its non-toxic, odorless, good health and safety and good processability, PET is widely used in food,
beverage and other industries packaging, especially for the production of mineral water bottles, juice bottles,
carbonated beverage bottles and so on.
Processing Flow
Sorting:The collected PET water bottles are sorted according to color, impurities and other
factors. Because PET water bottles of different colors may contain different additives, classification is beneficial
for subsequent processing.
Crushing:The sorted PET water bottles are crushed to turn them into small particles or fragments.
This step is usually done by mechanical equipment such as blade crushers or rough grinders.
Washing:The crushed PET pellets are washed to remove impurities, oils, labels, etc. There are two
main types of washing, physical and chemical, which usually require the use of warm water and detergents.
Drying:The washed PET pellets are dried to remove moisture. This step usually requires the use
of
hot air drying equipment.
Melting:The dried PET pellets are melted to turn them into a liquid. This step requires
the use of
heating equipment, such as a melting furnace.
Pelletizing:The melted PET liquid is passed through filtration and a die head to form
new PET
pellets. These pellets can be used again to make new plastic products. The two main types of
granulation processing
are single screw granulators and twin screw granulators.
Reprocessing:The PET pellets after pelletizing treatment are reprocessed, which
can be done by
thermoplastic processing methods, such as injection molding and extrusion, to make new PET
products, such as
beverage bottles and food containers.
Value of Pelletizing
Environmental value:PET water bottle pelletizing is an important part of
resource recycling, which
can transform PET bottles originally regarded as waste into valuable renewable
resources. This treatment helps to
reduce pollution of the environment by waste plastics and damage to soil, water and
ecosystems from plastic waste,
thus promoting environmental protection and sustainable development.
Economic value:PET pellets after pelletizing treatment can be used again
to make various plastic
products, such as fibers, bottles, packaging materials and so on. This not only
creates economic value for the
recycling industry, but also reduces the production cost of new plastics and
improves economic efficiency.
